Bosco Reach Out-Development Through Empowerment

Don Bosco Bharosa Migrants Desk

About

Don Bosco Bharosa Migrant Desk of Bosco Reach Out, under the Salesian Province of Guwahati, has been working since 2021 to promote safe migration for the youth of North East India. Its core objective is to understand the migrant situation within the Province and gather data on marginalised and vulnerable migrants. The initiative aims to raise awareness, provide counselling, create linkages with existing welfare schemes, and guide migrants in accessing entitlements and services available both at the national and state levels. More than 16,030 households are sensitized on the concept of Safe Migration and the Importance of Legal Documents.

A Collaborative Action for Assam Migrants: A Stakeholder Dialogue between the Source and Destination was organised with the collective goal of fostering meaningful collaboration, identifying practical solutions, and ensuring that the rights, dignity, and well-being of Assam’s migrants are prioritised. The event brought together approximately 50 key stakeholders, including representatives from civil society organisations, student organisations, trade unions, religious groups, and government agencies. These actors work in the areas of migration, labour rights, and social welfare. The dialogue focused on addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by migrant workers from Assam in destination states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and Delhi. Key discussion points included understanding migration trends, identifying challenges faced by Assam migrants in South, West, and North India, and strengthening support systems at both origin and destination. A significant outcome of the conclave was the development of a collaborative action plan aimed at ensuring the long-term welfare, rights, and protection of Assam’s migrant workforce.

There are 46 Don Bosco Migrant Desks across India focused on ensuring safer migration, registering documents, networking, and advocacy.
