Bosco Reach Out-Development Through Empowerment

Right to Access Conceptual Education (RACE)

About

Bosco Reach Out has been implementing the RACE project in West Karbi Anglong since June 2022 with the support of Childaid Network, Germany. The project has reached 2,146 students across 32 Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan including Lower Primary (LP) schools, fostering inclusive learning and active community engagement. Focused on indigenous communities such as the Karbis, Garo, Hill Tiwas, and Khasis, the project aims to enhance educational access and quality. Operating across four zones—Donka, Satgaon, Hamren, and Baithalangso—the project targets 9,383 students and 265 teachers. Bosco Reach Out continued preliminary activities during the interim to ensure a smooth transition once the project resumed.

Children’s clubs in schools have empowered students to actively participate in meaningful environmental activities and school-based projects. The school kitchen garden initiative has become a key step toward promoting health, nutrition, and sustainability in project schools. During the summer camp, students showcased creativity through clay modeling and drawing, as well as through sports, dance, and singing performances. Parents find the remedial classes highly beneficial and have expressed a strong desire for continued support. Students attending these centres have become more confident and disciplined. Some are now able to introduce themselves in simple English and recite rhymes, although storytelling remains an area for growth. The classes emphasize literacy and numeracy skills. School Management Committee (SMC) members actively monitor teacher and student performance, and the wider community deeply appreciates the positive impact of the RACE initiative.
