Emergency Relief for Flood-Affected Villages

About

The ‘Emergency Relief for Flood-Affected Villages in Satgaon Parish, West Karbi Anglong, Assam’ was implemented through the collaborative efforts of diverse funding agencies and stakeholders. Key partners included Misean Cara, Don Bosco Mondo, Bonn (Germany), Salesian Missions Ireland, Misiones Salesianas, Madrid (Spain), and Manos Unidas, Spain. The Disaster Management Committee played a crucial role in supporting awareness programmes and community preparedness initiatives. Active involvement of local leaders and community members in planning and distribution helped build trust, ensure transparency, and streamline operations. Their insights were invaluable in identifying and reaching the most vulnerable households effectively.

The intervention significantly improved the life circumstances and human rights situation of flood-affected families. Distribution of essential relief materials—such as food, safe drinking water, and temporary shelter—met immediate survival needs and reduced the risk of disease outbreaks. Provision of groceries, including rice, lentils, oil, and spices, enabled families to prepare nutritious meals, alleviating hunger and malnutrition during the recovery phase. Access to essential food supplies also allowed families to focus on rebuilding their homes and livelihoods without the stress of food insecurity. Additionally, emergency household supplies such as mosquito nets, blankets, solar lamps, water filter, and hygiene kits were critical in restoring a sense of normalcy, especially for women and children. Temporary shelter materials—including tin sheets, tarpaulins, mats, and ropes—offered protection from harsh weather while families worked towards permanent housing. By addressing these critical needs, the intervention enabled affected families to recover with resilience, stability, and dignity.
