Integrated Sustainable Community Development Project (ISCDP)
Integrated Sustainable Community Development Project has been implemented with the financial support of Misereor, Germany in seven districts of Assam (Baksa, Darrang, Goalpara, Kamrup, West KarbiAnglong, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts) and one district of Meghalaya (West Garo Hills) covering 177 villages of the two states. It aims in creating improvement in the standard of living of the people, particularly of women, in the selected project area by strengthening the socio-economic capacities of the people, their organizations (Self Help Groups, Cluster Level Federations and Block Level Federations) and optimum utilization of their resources.
It has involved 604 Self Help Groups (SHGs) with 6585 members in various project activities. 37 Cluster Level Federations comprising 431 member SHGs and 13 BLFs comprising 31 CLFs has been formed. 21 Turmeric Cluster, 19 Goatery Clusters, Six Dairy Clusters, 22 Piggery Clusters, Eight Food Processing Clusters, Six Handloom Clusters, and One Bamboo Craft Clusters are involved in collective production and marketing of products while 2062 SHG members are involved in collective production, especially turmeric cultivation and goatery. 1169 SHG members have started their own small enterprise on piggery, dairy and various non-farm products and services out of which 531 have already started generating regular income of approximately INR 3000 per month.
Awareness Programme on Various Issues of the Tea Tribes Community of Assam
The ‘Awareness Programme on child/human trafficking, family planning, legal awareness, health, etc.,’ for the financial year 2017-18 covering 25 numbers of Tea Garden Labour Line in Dimakuchi Tea Garden, Udalguri district is implemented with the support of Directorate for Welfare of Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes, Govt of Assam. It focused on women folk, youth and school children in different labour line of the tea garden.Various activities and programmes conducted includes district level stakeholders meeting, street play/puppet show/cultural programme, screening of film shows (on education, health, hygiene, social issues), group/community meetings, (FGDs), IPC (by members of Mother’s Group/Adolescent Girls’ Groups/Youth Groups), school programme, formation/strengthening of Mother’s Group/Adolescent Girls’ Groups/Youth Groups and regular meetings of groups, Labour lines/habitations/villages cleanliness Campaign by community, and Printing of pictorial leaflets. The project achieved to disseminate the awareness far and wide among the people through the formation of 16 Mother’s Group and 12 Youth Groups in 25 labour lines of Dimakuchi Tea Estate.
Promotion and Linkage of Joint Liability Group
The project ‘Promotion and Linkages of Joint Liability Groups Project’ aims to bring better bank credit linkage and socio-economic development to the rural section of society. A Joint Liability Group is a group of 4-10 people of the same village/locality of a homogenous nature and of the same socio-economic background. 242 farmers formed 51 Joint Liability Groups. They were credit-linked with banks. Rs. 53,20,000.00 was sanctioned and disbursed as a loan for piggery.
Jal Jeevan Mission
The project, Jal Jeevan Mission, implemented in 10 PHE Divisions in the state of Assam since June 2021, aims to support the Public Health Engineering Department in achieving the goal of providing functional household tap connection (FHTC) to every household under the government of India’s aim of ‘HarGhar Jal’ by the year 2024. More than 93,400 households in the six districts of Assam will avail clean drinking water in sufficient quantity.
Bosco Reach Out assists in providing FHTC (Functional Household Tap Connection) to every rural household, prioritizing the provision of FHTCs in quality-affected areas, villages in drought-prone and desert areas, SansadAdarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) villages, providing functional tap connections to schools, Anganwadi centres, GP buildings, health centres, wellness centres, and community buildings. They monitor the functionality of tap connections, promote and ensure voluntary ownership among the local community, assist in ensuring the sustainability of the water supply system, and raise awareness on various aspects and significance of safe drinking water and involvement of stakeholders in a manner that makes water everyone’s business.
Livelihood Enhancement and Social Integration Opportunities (JPN)
The ‘Livelihood Enhancement and Social Integration Opportunities for the Rural Poor Youth who Migrate from their Homes’ is a national-level umbrella project with ambitious objectives to provide free and adequate services to job seekers across the country, thereby improving the livelihood of underserved jobseekers by enhancing their aspirations through career guidance and skill training. It also enables access to secure job markets through job referral services, ensuring job retention and enhancing their livelihood and social integration through quality job opportunities and decent, safe, and secure working conditions. The employed youth are performing well in their jobs and providing financial support to their families.
Low-Cost Homes for the Poorest People
The project, Low-Cost Homes for Poorest People in the Salesian Province of Guwahati, Assam, is initiated to build one-time decent and sustainable houses for the poorest of the poor on the special occasion of the hundred years of Salesian Charism in North East India in 2022. The project is within the jurisdiction of the Salesian Province of Guwahati, which covers the states of Assam and Meghalaya. The selected beneficiaries belong to economically disadvantaged people with a preference for families affected by floods. The majority (90%) of the families will be tribal (Scheduled Tribe) or from backward communities in rural areas.
Care and Support for Potential Migrants
The Care and Support for Potential Migrants in Two Districts of Assam addressed the potential young migrant workers of 18 to 35 years who plan to migrate within the state and other parts of India from the two targeted tea garden areas in Assam. Through this project, BRO collaborates with 480 community leaders, members of different village groups, and institutions (Headmen and VCDCs/youth groups/women’s groups/educational and religious institutions) to spread the concept of Safe Migration in the communities in the first year. Additionally, 20,000 residents from the target area are sensitised on the concept of Safe Migration and the Importance of Legal Documents with the collaboration of community leaders and members of youth groups/women’s groups/educational and religious institutions. The migrant’s data was collected using Google Forms. 480 Community leaders received education on record-keeping to keep track of the safety of their people who will be moving out or those who have moved out from their villages.
